This Privacy Policy explains what personal data JED Events collects, why we collect it, how we use it, and your rights in relation to it. Please read this policy carefully. By using jedevent.com and any of our services, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.

1. Who We Are#

JED Events is an online event management platform operating at jedevent.com, registered and governed under the laws of the Republic of Ghana. We act as the data controller for all personal information collected through our platform. Any reference to "JED", "we", "us", or "our" in this policy refers to JED Events.

2. Information We Collect#

When you register an account, use our services, or interact with our platform, you may provide us with:

Your full name and profile photograph
Email address and mobile phone number
Payment and billing details for processing transactions. Full card numbers are not stored on our servers. They are handled directly by our PCI-compliant payment gateway partners.
Event content such as descriptions, promotional images, and nominee data (for organisers and event hosts)
Bank account or mobile money details for payout purposes (for event organisers)
Records of correspondence between you and JED Events

When you access or use our platform, we also automatically collect:

Device and browser information including device type, operating system, and browser version
Usage data such as pages visited, features used, and click patterns
Log data including IP address, access timestamps, and referring URLs
General geographic location inferred from your IP address. We do not collect precise GPS location without explicit consent.

We may also receive information about you from third parties, including:

Payment processors and mobile money operators (transaction confirmation data)
Event organisers who upload your details in connection with an event
Social media platforms if you connect a social account to your JED profile

3. How We Use Your Information#

We use the personal information we collect for the following purposes:

Account management: to create, verify, and manage your JED Events account
Service delivery: to process ticket purchases, voting transactions, RSVP registrations, nominations, and payout requests
Communications: to send transaction confirmations, event reminders, account notifications, and payout confirmations
Platform improvement: to analyse usage patterns and improve performance, features, and user experience
Security and fraud prevention: to detect, investigate, and prevent fraudulent activity, voting manipulation, and unauthorised access
Legal compliance: to comply with applicable Ghanaian laws, regulatory requirements, court orders, and law enforcement requests
Marketing: with your consent, to send information about new features, partner events, and promotional offers. You may opt out at any time.

We do not use your personal data for any purpose that is incompatible with the purposes listed above without your prior consent.

4. Legal Basis for Processing#

We process your personal data on the following legal bases in accordance with applicable Ghanaian data protection law:

Contractual necessity: processing required to provide the services you have requested, including account registration, ticket purchases, and payouts
Legitimate interests: processing necessary for platform security, fraud prevention, and improving our services, provided these interests are not overridden by your rights
Legal obligation: processing required to comply with applicable laws and regulations
Consent: processing based on your explicit consent, such as for marketing communications. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing.

We may share your personal data in the following circumstances:

With event organisers: when you purchase a ticket, cast a vote, submit an RSVP, or participate in an event, we share relevant data with the organiser. This may include your name, contact details, ticket type, attendance confirmation, and voting activity. Organisers are required to handle your data responsibly and in compliance with applicable law.
With service providers: we share data with trusted third-party providers including payment gateway providers, mobile money operators, analytics services, and customer support tools. All providers are contractually obligated to process your data only on our instructions.
With legal and regulatory authorities: where required by applicable law, legal process, or to protect the rights and safety of JED Events, its users, or the public.
In business transfers: in the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of JED Events, your data may be transferred to the successor entity. We will notify you of any such transfer.

JED Events does not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party for their own marketing or commercial purposes. Your data is used solely to provide and improve our services.

6. Data Retention#

We retain your personal data for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes set out in this policy, comply with legal obligations, or resolve disputes. Specific retention periods are as follows:

Account data: retained for the duration of your account and up to two (2) years after account closure
Transaction and payment records: retained for a minimum of five (5) years in accordance with Ghanaian financial record-keeping obligations
Event data (voting records and ticket records): retained for three (3) years following the conclusion of the relevant event
Support and communication records: retained for up to two (2) years from the date of the last interaction
Technical logs: retained for up to twelve (12) months

Upon expiry of the applicable retention period, data is securely deleted or anonymised in accordance with our Data Deletion Policy.

7. Your Rights#

You have the following rights in relation to your personal data held by JED Events:

Right of Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Right to Rectification: request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
Right to Erasure: request deletion of your personal data in certain circumstances
Right to Restrict Processing: request that we restrict processing where you contest accuracy or object to use
Right to Data Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format (where processing is based on consent or contract)
Right to Object: object to processing for direct marketing or based on legitimate interests
Right to Withdraw Consent: withdraw consent at any time without penalty

OTP-based authentication for sensitive account and transaction actions
Role-based access controls limiting staff access to personal data on a need-to-know basis

While we take all reasonable precautions, no system is completely immune to security threats. In the event of a data breach likely to affect your rights, we will notify you and, where required, relevant regulatory authorities, in accordance with applicable law.

9. Children's Privacy#

Our platform is not directed at children under the age of eighteen (18). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. 10. International Data Transfers#

JED Events is based in Ghana and primarily processes data within Ghana. Where your data is transferred to or accessed from outside Ghana, we ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data to a standard equivalent to Ghanaian law.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements.
