Data Deletion Policy
JED Events respects your right to control your personal data. This policy explains how you can request deletion of your personal data, what data we can delete, what data we are legally required to retain, and how we process your request.
Last updated on 1 May 2026.
1. Introduction#
This Data Deletion Policy forms part of JED Events' broader commitment to data privacy and is to be read alongside our Privacy Policy, available at jedevent.com/privacy-policy. It governs how JED Events handles requests for the deletion or erasure of personal data submitted by users of the jedevent.com platform.
We collect and process personal data only for defined purposes and for as long as necessary. When data is no longer needed or when you request its removal, we are committed to handling that request promptly, transparently, and responsibly.
2. Who Can Request Data Deletion#
Any of the following persons may submit a data deletion request to JED Events:
- Any registered user (Attendee or Organiser) who wishes to delete their account and/or associated personal data
- Any individual whose personal data has been uploaded to the platform by a third party (such as an Organiser uploading a guest list or nominee information), who wishes to have that data removed
- A parent or legal guardian acting on behalf of a child whose data has been collected in error
- An authorised representative acting on behalf of a deceased person or an incapacitated individual
3. What Data Can Be Deleted#
Upon a valid deletion request, and subject to the exceptions in the section below, JED Events will delete or permanently anonymise the following categories of personal data:
- Account profile information, including your name, email address, phone number, and profile picture
- Device and browser information linked to your account sessions
- Marketing preferences and communication history, where not legally required
- RSVP records and non-financial event participation data no longer required for ongoing event management
- Uploaded content, including event images, descriptions, and nominee data where the Organiser has consented to deletion
- Support and communication records older than the applicable retention period
- Cookie identifiers and tracking data, to the extent technically feasible
"Deletion" means that your personal data is either permanently erased from our systems and those of our service providers, or irreversibly anonymised such that you can no longer be identified from the remaining data. Anonymised data may be retained for statistical and analytical purposes.
4. Data We Are Required to Retain#
Certain categories of personal data cannot be deleted, even upon request, because retention is required by law, necessary to protect the legitimate rights of JED Events or other parties, or essential to the integrity of financial and event records. These include:
- Financial and Transaction Records: all payment records, revenue transactions, payout histories, and associated identifiers must be retained for a minimum of five (5) years under Ghanaian financial and tax legislation
- Fraud and Security Records: data related to detected or investigated fraud, voting manipulation, or security incidents may be retained for up to five (5) years for the purposes of preventing repeat offences and cooperating with law enforcement
- Legal Hold Data: data subject to a court order, regulatory investigation, or active legal dispute cannot be deleted until the matter is resolved
- Dispute Resolution Records: records necessary to resolve outstanding complaints, refund disputes, or payout claims must be retained until the matter is fully concluded
- Contractual Obligations: where deletion would impair JED Events' ability to fulfil ongoing contractual obligations (for example, to an Organiser whose event is still active), deletion will be deferred until those obligations are discharged
If your data falls into one or more of the categories above, JED Events will inform you clearly of what data cannot be deleted and the reason. All other data will be deleted within the timeframe described in this policy.
5. How to Submit a Deletion Request#
You may submit a data deletion request through any of the following channels:
- Email: send a written request to [email protected] with the subject line "Data Deletion Request"
- WhatsApp: send a message to +233264602978 stating your intention to request data deletion
To process your request efficiently and verify your identity, please include the following:
- Your full name as registered on your JED Events account
- Your registered email address and/or mobile phone number
- A brief description of the data you wish to have deleted (e.g., full account deletion, specific records, or data uploaded by a third party)
- If acting on behalf of another person, your relationship to that person and any supporting documentation
For the protection of all users, JED Events will verify your identity before processing any deletion request. Verification may be done by sending an OTP to your registered phone number or email address, or by requesting a copy of a valid government-issued ID for requests from third-party representatives.
6. How We Process Your Request#
Once we receive your request, we process it in the following stages:
- Within 48 hours: we receive and acknowledge your deletion request
- Within 3 business days: we verify your identity via OTP or ID check
- Within 7 business days: we review the request and identify deletable vs. retainable data
- Within 10 business days: we notify you of what will be deleted and what will be retained, with reasons
- Within 30 days of request: we complete deletion or anonymisation of eligible data
- Upon completion: we send you a deletion confirmation
7. Account Closure and Data Deletion#
Closing your JED Events account does not automatically result in immediate deletion of all your personal data. Upon account closure:
- Your account will be deactivated and will no longer be accessible
- Personal data eligible for deletion will be queued for deletion within thirty (30) days of account closure
- Financial and transaction records will be retained as required by law
- You will receive a confirmation email upon completion of the deletion process
If you wish to ensure full deletion of all eligible data upon account closure, please submit an explicit data deletion request alongside your account closure request.
8. Deletion of Third-Party Uploaded Data#
If your personal data was uploaded to the JED platform by an Organiser (for example, as a nominee, a guest list entry, or a ticketed attendee), you may request removal of that data by contacting us directly. JED Events will:
- Notify the relevant Organiser of your request
- Remove your data from publicly visible areas of the platform immediately upon verification
- Process full deletion of the data within thirty (30) days, subject to the retention exceptions above
9. Third-Party and Service Provider Data#
Where your personal data has been shared with our service providers (such as payment processors) in connection with our services, we will take all reasonable steps to ensure that those providers also delete or anonymise your data upon a valid deletion request. However, where third-party retention is mandated by their own legal obligations, we cannot compel deletion by those parties and will inform you accordingly.
10. Changes to This Policy#
This Data Deletion Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or applicable law. Material changes will be communicated via email and/or a notice on the platform. Your continued use of the platform after such changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
